Did you know that more than 32,000 men will die as a direct result of prostate cancer in 2010? Would you also believe I have never grown a moustache? As a result of these two facts and that my grandfather-in-law survived prostate cancer, I am choosing to participate in Movember for the first time. Although I first learned of Movember last year, this year I feel I’m in a better position to participate and can potentially make a bigger impact by raising more funds and spreading more awareness. I am also keenly aware that I need to change some of my own habits to reduce my chances of falling victim to this disease.
Dallas is also participating in a big way and we want to leverage our social media reach to drive funds for prostate research and awareness. You have to also check out the Dallas Moustache team website as well to join, donate or share.

What you can expect from me for the next 30 Days
First, you will notice what looks like dirt on my upper lip for the next few weeks so bare with me. Part of the reason I’ve never grown a moustache is because I can’t grow facial hair easily. Second, you will see me talking about this online quite a bit in an effort to raise funds and awareness. Not only will you see various tweets and facebook comments, but also you are bound to see a few pictures and potentially a few videos as well. My goal is drive awareness during this month and raise at least $300.00.
My Personal Challenge
I’m challenging myself to go without red meat for the next 30 days. As someone who grew up on a pig farm and raised cattle, I’m no stranger to three meat breakfasts and an ample diet of protein from red meat. Fact is, I have a thing for bacon and have been a member of a monthly hamburger club. So let’s see how hard this really is.
I hope to see many of my fellow online friends and followers participate as well. How are you planning to participate in Movember?
